Julio Iglesias

Julio Iglesias was born in Madrid in 1943. He was a student of Law in the Complutense University of Madrid. His decision to become a singer wasn’t so obvious, as it may seem. In his twentieth suffered a very severe car accident, which forced him to stay in hospital for a year and a half. It was then, when he received his first guitar.

On July 17th of the year of 1968, after performing at the then famous Benidorm Music Festival, he was proclaimed the winner of the contest with his famous song La vida sigue igual, and he signed a contract with Columbia Discos. In 1971 Julio got married with Isabel Preysler Arrastria, with whom they had 3 childrens(Isabel, Julio and Enrique). Little by little he became well known all around the world, and in 1983 received the Diamond Record Award ever given to a singer by the Guinness Book of World Records for selling more records in more languages, than any other musician before.

He received many awards, such as the Grammy Award in 1988, or the prestigious Golden Record Award in 1995. In 1997 was awarded by ASCAP Pied Piper Award, the Society's most prestigious award for entertainers. Julio Iglesias can be proud of his work, every thirty seconds one of his songs is played on a radio station somewhere in the world.
